Justice is closed.

The prison system works hard to maintain a division between those of us ‘outside’ who should not trouble ourselves with what goes on ‘inside’. The capacity to sustain such distance is one test of state power.

Public apathy is its reward.

OPEN JUSTICE is a new initiative which aims to change this.

We are a collaborative team of individuals with lived experience of the Criminal Justice System. Our aim is to provide an evidence-based critique of the CJS, informed by our own experiences of its reality.

We launched last year with the publication of our comprehensive response to the UK Government's Prison Strategy White Paper.

Read it now.

We publish new writing

and analysis on and from

the prison system.
